Basics, Not Basic

Hello, again!

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day. Alex and I enjoyed spending our very first one together in the two years that we've been dating. He took me to the Denver Art Museum and then out to dinner. When we got home, we just relaxed with some cannabis goodies that he had molded into heart shapes for me (how fucking cute is that?!) and devoured a dozen chocolate-covered strawberries. We typically keep things very simple in our relationship, we like it that way.

Because I was enjoying my relaxing day with him, I didn't get a chance to photograph/document the outfit that I wore to the museum but I do intend on shooting it for a future blog post, so be on the lookout for that. And speaking of "lookout..."

So, true to form, the weather here in Colorado has made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Remember in my last post how I was wearing shorts and a tank top? Well, these photos are from last week when the weather was not-so-February. We took a scenic drive up Lookout Mountain in Golden to enjoy some much-appreciated warm sunshine.

The first time we drove up this mountain was back in October when our parents were visiting. I unfortunately experienced altitude-sickness for the very first time, which was awful, by the way. I'm happy to report that since then, this 7,000ft mountain no longer makes me nauseous (although I'll admit I'm still scared shitless making the drive down...yikes!)

So, I thought I would share with you what I would consider to be "my look." Fashion is awesome because you can be anyone, and while I try to experiment with looks and trends, people who see me day-to-day usually see me dressed like this. It's nice to step back and appreciate your journey, and my fashion journey seems to have started here: in sweet simplicity.

I love basics (the clothes, not the people) because they're so versatile, which is a quality that I like to think I also carry. I'm most comfortable in clothes that take little to no effort, as I feel that's when I am free to be most like myself. These outfits have been repeated on numerous offenses (whoops – don't alert the fashion police, please!) and I'm positive I've worn other pieces that are painfully similar. These looks aren't put together to impress, but rather to express... and while I'm sure there are quite a few people who don't appreciate the lack of outfit effort, this is me. It's as simple and as complicated as that.

Social Decay

Okay, is it just me or is this year already flying by?

I can't believe that we're already a week into February – the unusual warm weather here in Colorado certainly doesn't have me convinced. The past few days have been pushing 70 degrees, how crazy is that?! There was snow on the ground less than a week ago, and today I ran errands in a tank top and shorts... insane! I never thought I would be sweating this time of year, at least not in Colorado. It almost felt like being back in Phoenix, again...

So, rewinding back to a few weeks ago, I was contacted over Instagram by a clothing brand called Social Decay. After a few emails back and forth, they so generously offered to send me my very first bit of blogger mail! Scrolling through their site, I found a whole bunch of cute graphic tees/tanks that were absolutely my taste. I was beyond excited to get my hands on this top. The package arrived just a day or two after my birthday... happy belated to me!

These are some of my Instagram posts from today's excursion. Alex and I, true to form, started our Saturday at my favorite coffee shop in Denver. I got my usual, an iced soy hazelnut latte with a cinnamon sprinkle. They always serve their coffee in different, mismatched mugs but today my drink was served in a mason jar... how cute, right? I also had an exceptionally yummy cucumber, dill and cream cheese panini. I swear this place can do no wrong.

So after our coffee/panini run, we drove around a bit before continuing our day of errands. We came across this really awesome mural on the backside of a building and had to stop for some pictures. Denver has really surprised me with its vast amount of street art, and honestly I've seen some of the most incredible and detailed murals since I've been living out here. After snapping a few shots, we hopped back in the car and headed back over to Santa Fe Dr.

We revisited one of the many antique shops where I decided to put on a pretty face... cute, right? Our real goal was to pick up my poor laptop from the repair shop. I'm happy to report that my baby is up and running again! It feels so good to have it back. Right next to the repair shop was this absolutely dope mural, and upon further examination, I noticed an infamous quote by YSL that I had previously overlooked last time we passed by this wall. This time, I made sure to snap a full pic.

After picking up my baby, we grabbed some Chipotle for lunch and went home to relax for a bit and to hang out with my pup before we went to enjoy the weather in Downtown Golden. The leather seats in Alex's car seriously had me feeling a bit sweaty and gross, so I also ended up changing while we stopped at home... and well... I ended up liking that outfit, too. I decided to document it – I mean, Social Decay was nice enough to send me a shirt so the least I could do is wear the shit out of it, right?! It's good to know that such a simple, fun tank will have endless outfit opportunities.

XXIII

Happy Superbowl Sunday to all you football fans!

I, myself, couldn't really care less about football or sports in general, but today is a good excuse to sit on my butt and eat junk food so I suppose it's not so bad. I'll be posted up all afternoon with my dog and my boyfriend... makes for a super cozy afternoon.

Yesterday was my 23rd birthday – not really an exciting age, but I'm one year older (and hopefully wiser?) and it's still something to celebrate, right? This is the first birthday I've gotten to spend with Alex, so that alone made it a happy day. He made us breakfast burritos and mimosas, and he got me one of my favorite albums on vinyl. Later in the day, we took a trip to Morrison where we shot this outfit and grabbed some dinner. Of course we stopped in a few shops while we were there – we had time to kill and we can't really ever pass up antiquing... it's sort of become our thing. Our night ended watching Alice in Wonderland (my favorite) and eating tiramisu (also my favorite).

This birthday was a quiet one, but it was special nonetheless.
Here's to another year of living...

Felt very Stevie Nicks in this funeral-esque attire. I scooped this beautiful chiffon maxi dress up during my lunch break at work when I saw it was the last one in my size. It turned out to be on sale for half the price, too! Sometimes wardrobe dreams really do come true.

Until next time...
